Crown Repair/ReplacementMore often than not the concrete/mortar slab or slope on top of your chimney, called the crown, is cracked from expansion and contraction of the flue(s) in your chimney. When water gets in these cracks and freezes and thaws over the winter, the cracks get larger, allowing even more water to penetrate. There are usually two alternatives to this problem. If the cracks aren't too severe, we can apply a product called CrownSeal on your crown to seal up the cracks and provide an affordable and permanent solution to your problem. CrownSeal is a flexible coating that packs those cracks and will keep them from reforming while channeling water off the crown. From the makers of ChimneySaver water repellent, CrownSeal will remain permanently flexible and is backed by a ten-year warranty not to chip, crack or peel. If your crown is falling to pieces or if the job calls for a new crown, we recommend installation of either a poured concrete tapered crown or a poured concrete projected crown.
