Q: "What can you tell me about carbon monoxide?"

As you may well know, carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can be fatal to humans. Chimneys can emit this gas, but rarely does a chimney cause a dangerous concentration of carbon monoxide in your home. Have a professional check your fireplace and any other appliance (especially gas furnaces and water heaters) vented through the chimney for any potential hazards. Also one of the wisest investments for homeowners is a reliable carbon monoxide detector. The better ones have a LED readout that will tell you how many parts per million (ppm) are present. Purchasing more than one is always a good idea. They are available at most department stores.
